PTSD, trauma and the Rewind Technique
I originally trained as a person-centred counsellor which means I attempt to create an environment which best facilitates and promotes your growth and development in whatever direction you choose. I also integrate elements and techniques from other approaches if they seem appropriate and helpful for you, including CBT interventions, mindfulness, trauma-focused interventions and creative therapies. I have spent many years working in substance misuse and working with young people in schools.
I am based in shrewsbury and usually offer counselling at the Roy Fletcher Centre which is within walking distance of the town centre and easily accessable via public transport. However if you cannot get there then please do ask as other options are available.
I am fully qualified and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), following their Ethical Framework for Good Practice.
I have a Foundation Degree (level 5) in Counselling and Psychotherapy and a post-graduate diploma (level 7) in psychological trauma.
I have a particular interest in trauma and PTSD. There are several stages to working through trauma, which I will talk to you about before we begin.
I am also trained in the rewind technique with the International Association for Rewind Trauma Therapy. This is a technique used to stop the involuntary recall of traumatic memories. You do not have to tell me about what happened, but you do have to think about it. If this is something that you would like to try then please be aware that it requires a minimum of 3 sessions and a free follow up email assessment.
I have a particular interest in birth trauma (mums, dads and anyone who has been affected) and babes in arms are welcome. Generally, it is better if you don’t bring your baby with you because we can’t do therapy if you are needing to attend to him/her. You may also find it uncomfortable talking about certain things or becoming distressed around your child. However, I understand that it’s not always possible to find childcare and being separated from your child can cause unnecessary anxiety.
